An umbrella body representing Kilimani residents has raised objections to plans for widening State House Road between the Uhuru Highway Roundabout and the Dennis Pritt Road junction, warning of worsened congestion, environmental risks, and poor public consultation.
In a letter to Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) Director General Silas Kinoti, the Kilimani Community Foundation (KCF) said concerns raised during a February 6 public participation forum remain unresolved.
KCF Chairperson Irene Aguttu cautioned that expanding the corridor could attract more motorists, worsening traffic rather than easing it. She noted that many vehicles using the route are headed to Kileleshwa, Lavington, Riverside and other western suburbs, not Kilimani itself.
The foundation argued that priority should shift to strengthening alternative routes such as Argwings Kodhek Road, Chiromo Lane, Riverside Drive and connecting links, which already carry heavy traffic and could disperse flows more effectively.
Residents insist the project risks undermining neighbourhood livability and urge KURA to address their concerns before implementation.
