
Kanu is a native of Abia State, born and raised in Owerri, Imo State Capital.
He began his career in Nigeria, playing for Nigeria League Federation Club before joining Iwuanyanwu Nationale where he won the NPFL title 1992/93
Few months later, Kanu will win the 1993 FIFA U-17 championship after helping Nigeria beat Ghana in the finals
Shortly after the tournament he moved to Holland signing for Ajax Amsterdam, and played alongside compatriot Finidi George
He became a household name after his performances at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta Georgia USA, 1996, where Nigeria won Gold
He has represented Nigeria at FIFA world cups and AFCON tournaments
He’s the only Nigerian player to win the CAF Best Player Award Twice
