Foundation and Early Years (2010-2022)
Singida Black Star Football Club, originally founded as Diamond Trust Bank Football Club (DTB FC) in 2010, began as a team composed of employees from the Diamond Trust Bank. The club gained traction by participating in various bank-sponsored tournaments across Tanzania, which led to increased visibility and support. As the team performed well in these competitions, the bankβs leadership decided to invest further in the club, facilitating its entry into more competitive leagues.
In 2022, following a successful run that culminated in promotion to the Tanzanian Premier League, DTB Bank opted to discontinue its ownership of the club. This decision was made to allow the bank to concentrate on its core banking functions. Consequently, local stakeholders from the Singida region seized this opportunity to acquire the team. They rebranded it as Singida Big Stars, aligning it with other prominent clubs in the area like Singida United.
Premier League Participation (2022-2023)
The 2022-2023 season marked a significant milestone for Singida Big Stars as they debuted in the NBC Premier League. The clubβs management focused on enhancing its competitiveness by recruiting high-caliber players from both international markets and established Tanzanian teams such as Simba SC and Yanga SC. This strategic recruitment paid off; Singida Big Stars finished fourth in their inaugural season in the top flight and qualified for the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup.
Rebranding and New Ownership (2023-2024)
After a commendable performance during their first season in the Premier League, an investor group led by Fountain Gate Academy expressed interest in acquiring Singida Big Stars. Their goal was to modernize and improve club operations further. Following this acquisition, a merger occurred between Singida Big Stars and Fountain Gate Academy, resulting in a new name: Singida Fountain Gate FC.
Current Status and Management
As of now, Singida Fountain Gate FC continues to compete at a high level within Tanzanian football. The club has seen changes in management with Olebile Sikwane appointed as Chief Executive Officer on June 14, 2023. The teamβs home ground is Liti Stadium, previously known as Namfua Stadium.
The clubβs journey reflects not only its evolution through various names but also its growth from a corporate-sponsored team into a competitive entity within Tanzanian football.
