The JRA was closely ideologically and militarily aligned with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in the 1970s, fighting against capitalism, imperialism, and occupation.
Okamoto is most known for his role in the 1972 Lod Airport operation, which resulted in 26 dead and 80 wounded. Following the operation, Okamoto spent 13 years in Israeli prison- enduring solitary confinement and torture- before being released and returning to Lebanon. He was the first and only person granted political asylum in Lebanon.
