Early Life and Background
Nandy, whose real name is Faustina Charles Mfinanga, was born on November 9, 1992, in Moshi, Tanzania. She grew up in the Kilimanjaro Region and was raised in a family where her mother, Mary Charles, worked as a tailor and her father, Charles Mfinanga, was a mechanic. From a young age, Nandy showed an affinity for music; she began singing at the age of five as part of her Sunday school choir at the KKKT Lutheran church. Her early education included attending Mawenzi Primary School and later Lomwe High School, where she excelled as the head of the school choir. After completing high school, she pursued further education at the College of Business Education (CBE) in Dar es Salaam.
Musical Career
Nandy’s professional music career began when she was introduced to Ruge Mutahaba, the CEO of Tanzania House of Talent (THT). This connection led to her collaboration with producer Emma the Boy on her debut single “Nagusagusa,” which quickly became popular upon its release. In 2016, Nandy participated in “Tecno Own The Stage,” a pan-African singing competition held in Lagos, Nigeria. She finished as the first runner-up, gaining valuable experience and exposure that helped shape her career.
In 2017, Nandy released “One Day,” which significantly boosted her visibility in the music industry. That same year, she won the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) for Best Female Artist in East Africa. Her participation in Coke Studio Africa further solidified her reputation as a talented artist.
Over the years, Nandy has released several successful singles and EPs including “The African Princess” album (2018), “Wanibariki” EP (2021), and “Taste Of Love” EP (2021). In January 2023, she launched her own record label named “The African Princess,” signing Yammi as its first artist.

In addition to music, Nandy has ventured into acting. She appeared as herself in the series “Huba,” which aired on Maisha Magic Bongo via DSTV.
Goodwill Ambassador Role
Nandy serves as Tanzania’s Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF’s water, sanitation and hygiene programme (WASH). This initiative aims to improve access to clean water and sanitation services across over 100 countries.
Controversies
Throughout her career, Nandy has faced some controversies. In April 2018, she was briefly detained alongside fellow artist Bill Nass due to allegations of sharing indecent content online. More recently in 2022, leaked audio clips surfaced that suggested she had attempted to discredit another artist over an endorsement deal dispute.
Overall, Nandy has established herself as one of Tanzania’s leading musical talents through her dedication to both music and social causes.
